If you’ve ever used a brother scanner, you may have noticed that your scan has horizontal or vertical lines running through it. You may have even wondered why this is the case.
Black vertical lines can sometimes appear on the scanned images you make with a brother scanner. This is often caused by dirt, fingerprints, or correction fluid on ADF scanner glass
To clean the scanner glass, turn off the machine and unplug it from the power source. Gently wipe down the scanner glass with a soft cloth until all dirt or fingerprints are removed. If there is correction fluid on the glass, use a gentle detergent to remove it. Be sure to dry off the scanner glass completely before turning on the machine and scanning again.
Why is Brother printer printing horizontal black lines?
If your Brother printer is printing horizontal black lines, it is a common problem with many Brother printers, and there are a few things you can do to try to fix it.
One of the first ways to resolve a Brother printer printing horizontal lines is by cleaning and/or replacing the drum unit.
The drum unit is a small circuit board within the printer that helps transform electrical signals into black and white pictures. When this part becomes defective, it can cause lines to appear all over your printout.
To resolve this problem, simply open up your Brother machine and remove the drum unit from its slot in the printer’s frame
Do not touch or wipe down any of the parts inside of your Brother machine when replacing a drum unit!
You will need to take it to an authorized service center for replacement if you decide against doing it yourself. This process usually takes less than fifteen minutes but may vary depending on where you get yours replaced.
How to clean the rollers in a brother scanner
Most scanners these days come with rollers that need to be cleaned every once in a while.
It is a pretty simple process, but it’s important that you take your time and do it correctly. Otherwise, you might end up damaging your scanner. So without further ado, let’s get started!
- Clean the rollers in the scanner using a lint-free cloth slightly moistened with water.
- If the cloth is too wet, it can damage the rollers. If it’s not moist enough, dirt and dust will stick to the rollers and make them difficult to clean later on.
- Gently move the cloth over every roller in the scanner several times until they are all free of dirt, dust, and other debris.
- Make sure that you do not get any moisture inside of your scanner when cleaning the rollers!
- Once you’re finished, allow everything to dry completely before plugging in your scanner and using it again. You should also try scanning a document or photo after cleaning the rollers – if there are still black lines present on your scan, then you’ll know that it’s time for a new unit.
If you notice that a ‘Scheduled Maintenance Alert’ has suddenly appeared on the machine’s LCD, you must clean the machine promptly.
If you do not, document jams and paper feed problems may occur.
Does your Brother Printer Print Dirty Pages?
If you’re finding that your Brother printer is printing dirty pages, there could be a few different reasons why this is happening.
If you notice that your Brother printer is printing dirty pages or has random dots on the page, check inside the machine and around the drum area for loose toner.
If you discover that there’s a leaking toner cartridge inside the machine then it will need to be replaced.
The key thing is to not remove the toner cartridge from the Brother machine until you are ready to replace it. If you do not have a leaking toner cartridge, the next thing to check is the Brother printer driver
It’s possible that an outdated or corrupted printer driver could be causing your Brother printer to print dirty pages. In this case, updating your Brother printer driver should resolve the issue
Last but not least, if everything else seems to be in order and you’re still finding that your Brother printer is printing dirty pages, it might be time for a new machine!
